August was a busy month for working together with Calderdale workplaces, and voluntary & community organisations. This article highlights the great work we’ve been doing to help embed physical activity in those areas.
We’ve hired two Active Calderdale Community Engagement Coordinators
We are happy to announce the hiring of two Active Calderdale Community Engagement Coordinators! Our new coordinators are here to support the delivery of the Active strategy at a local level in Central and North Halifax. The coordinators will work to understand the assets in the place, what’s going well and what needs improving. They’re also here to influence change across other systems such as parks and open spaces, transport, leisure and sport to make sure activity is embedded throughout the borough.
Both our coordinators are being hosted and managed by external partners. Halifax Opportunities Trust are hosting and managing in central Halifax – primarily Park ward but also Town and Skircoat. North Halifax Partnership are hosting and managing in North Halifax – Illingworth, Mixenden and Ovenden.
Working with VAC to understand the baseline in Calderdale
We are undertaking a piece of work with Voluntary Action Calderdale which will review what physical activity opportunities are being provided by the voluntary and community sector across the Upper Valley. We are seeking to better understand who is currently supporting people to be physically active, and who isn’t but would like to be. If you think you should be a part of this, please email us at activecalderdale@calderdale.gov.uk
Take Ten Pilot encourages employees to be more active
This summer saw the trial of the Take Ten Pilot. The pilot spun out from the Design Council workshop, and was designed to test 10 various approaches to taking 10 minute activity breaks throughout the working day. The pilot was tested with partners from across the borough, including Lloyds Banking Group, Smartmove and Calderdale College.
Action packed August'
We’re working across multiple sectors to turn Calderdale into the most active borough in the North by 2024. More updates of whats been happening in August:
