The summer of 2019 has seen some really exciting developments in the communications work around Active Calderdale. This article summarises of the work in August to promote physical activity across the borough.
A new campaign is on its way
Throughout the design thinking and strategy building process, one recurring theme has been present – that people assume that to be “active” you have to be in the gym or running marathons. We’re working on a campaign to re-frame active for everyone in Calderdale.
Work has begun within the Calderdale Communications team to come up with three pitches. Senior leaders from across the borough have had their say on the best idea- the next step is to test it with the groups who it will impact on the most – the inactive.
We will keep you updated on the progress of the campaign as it develops in the coming months.
Filming with the Active Calderdale Bike Library
Haven’t heard of the bike library? It is exactly what it says on the tin – a free way to for Calderdale residents of all ages to borrow a bike that has been taken care of by professionals. We went down to Halifax Fire Station to produce a new film to help promote the service.
Social Media listening
Our initial social media listening research has now concluded. Working with Brighouse firm Visformatics, we’ve been able to produce a dataset with over 35,000 mentions of physical activity from across the borough over the last 2 years. There have been some interesting stats and some good learning from this data set.
Active Calderdale Activity Finder
Our new Active Calderdale Activity Finder is coming soon! Working with a company called Played, we’ve produced a system that is able to display physical activity sessions from all over Calderdale using Open Data.
The activity finder is up and running but we’re keeping it under wraps until it’s packed full of physical activities. Our current task is to promote this system to physical activity providers in Calderdale large and small, to help their activities achieve a wider reach through Calderdale.
