Active Competition Inspires Family Support Services

Updated: Apr 14

This summer, Family Support Services ran a fun competition in July and August to see which families and staff could complete the most "active visits"—encouraging everyone to get moving and stay active!

The North Family Support Team made an impressive 12 active visits, a big jump from the 5 visits they recorded in the spring. During these summer months, 35 families also received the Active Calderdale "Active Conversations" booklet to help them discover simple ways to stay active together.

Victoria, a Family Support worker, and a family she supports in Illingworth had three active outings. They explored their neighbourhood, enjoyed the local park, and even walked the route to the children’s new school, helping them get familiar with the journey. These walks encouraged the family to consider active travel to school, building healthy routines for the future.

“We encourage active visits to all families for a range of reasons. This can be from building parents' confidence to leave the home and supporting quality time between the parent/carer and their children. Active visits not only help to improve the family's activity levels but also increase the families' experiences and amount of stimulation.”
