Our Team: Richard Croker - Programme Lead
On the eve of our first ever Active Calderdale newsletter mailshot, Richard Croker, Programme Lead at Active Calderdale shares his passion for the active programme, his love of an active lifestyle and his hopes for the Active Calderdale newsletter.

"My name is Richard Croker and I lead the Active Calderdale programme. I’m hugely proud to be leading this work in Calderdale. I’ve been in the role for nearly 5 years, I’m still as enthused and passionate now as I was on day 1. I’m fortunate to work with a great team and so many great partners across different sectors in Calderdale, who all share the same passion and aim which is to help Calderdale residents live a larger life through being active.
I’m sure it comes as no surprise, I enjoy being active myself and am a firm believer in the importance and benefits of it. In my younger years, my activity revolved around playing sport, particularly football. I learnt so much from playing sport growing up and made some great friends in the process. I was also lucky enough to live out my boyhood dream of playing at Anfield, unfortunately, this wasn’t for or against Liverpool but nevertheless, it was still a special moment. As I’ve got older and now with two young children aged 3 and 6 my activity habits, and reasons for being active, have changed. I still enjoy running and try to fit it in when I have the time (and energy!), I’ve also tried to build activity more into day-to-day habits such as using cycling for travel purposes, it’s a good way to fit being active in. Being active helps me to manage the stresses of a busy work and home life, it never fails to lift my energy and mood levels.
The e-newsletter is our chance to celebrate and showcase the great work that’s going on across many different sectors and organisations, all working to enable residents to be physically active. I want to take the chance to thank all of the partners we work with for their support and commitment to leading this work. We hope you enjoy reading about some of the work happening across the programme. If you would like to keep up-to-date on all the great work happening across Calderdale, sign up for the newsletter here."
