About Active Calderdale

Active Calderdale is not just a programme - its a movement. Together, we have the opportunity to help everybody in Calderdale become stronger, happier and more connected through physical activity.

A third of adults in Calderdale are not regularly active - which can have a detrimental effect on their physical, mental and emotional health - and we believe that we can change that.

This change  happens through working together. Through organisations, groups and services across Calderdale - from the voluntary sector to schools and colleges, health and social care to parks & green spaces, and everything in between. Working as a community so that, wherever you are, you’re receiving the encouragement and opportunity to move more.

We're all Active Calderdale.

Our mission:

Work with communities to make physical activity an embedded part of day to day life in Calderdale.

Our goal:

Reduce physical inactivity levels, addressing the inequalities they create in Calderdale

Active Calderdale’s Theory of Change aims to build a healthier, happier, and a more active Calderdale by increasing physical activity opportunities and fostering collaboration across sectors. This approach focuses on creating sustainable initiatives, particularly for those who stand to benefit the most. By promoting movement in everyday life, especially amongst underrepresented or inactive groups, it delivers wide-ranging benefits, including improved health, wellbeing, economical, and social cohesion.

Our Theory of Change

To tackle inactivity in Calderdale, we aim to surround the issue, to make it an embedded part of day to day life for everyone in the borough, so that wherever you turn, you are receiving encouragement and opportunity to be physically active.
Together, we’re making Calderdale healthier and stronger, one step at a time.

Our core values

Resilience – Being active helps build strength, both for people and for our community. It’s important for a happier and healthier life.
Kindness – Not everyone has the same chance to be active. We all need to work together to make it easier for everyone.

Our work principles

To make sure what we do has the biggest impact, we follow these principles:

  • Specific – We focus on helping people who find it hard to be active.

  • Co-created – We work with the community to understand how we can help best.

  • Efficient – We use existing resources wisely.

  • Sustainable – We make sure that physical activity becomes a regular part of daily life.
